Send her flowers, cookies, chocolates, etc... or, even better yet, mail her a sweet letter or card telling her how special she is (it's always nice to get mail) most people are too busy to take the time to write anymore.

Crack a joke: look at the "bright" side of the situation. You could also make it clear how unreasonable they're being (if a tragic event happens or someone dies, this wouldn't apply. If you do not know why they are sad, just make a general funny remark. Also offer them something without reminding them that they're sad or why they're sad. Depending on the friend's personality, you may choose to discuss the issue and maybe go out for ice cream afterward. If not, go for a drink (but only a small portion).

I have a best friend too - he called me last night after I was going through a lot of stuff and he was just there and supportive and told me he cares about me and doesn't want me down. THAT MADE ME FEEL A LOT BETTER. I mean, it's not that I didn't already know that, but ya know, when someone speaks those words, it's helpful. I was smiling by the end of the phone call. Read the funny blonde joke on here someone just wrote in and you can tell it to her. She'll laugh.

Try with a flower and a balloon...Or a drawing of them...and a sign under it saying: Stress not allowed .Smiles, yes.
Singing to her will work too...especially if it's a cartoon song...I hope this helps.Good luck!

Listen to everything she has to say! This will show her that you really care. Other things you can do that would make her smile would be to compliment her, send her a funny joke, give her flowers and chocolate (yum : )), just be a nice and caring guy.

Be a good friend. Listen when she needs to talk, don't push her when she doesn't. Keep the conversation light and if you are a funny guy (girls like funny usually), go for it but don't go overboard.
