Check to see whats going on in terms of violence (It's been safe for a while); but there tend to be flare ups. If you are a westerner and not Hindu you should be safe. If there is trouble there may be strikes, etc. that can ruin a vacation very quickly. Not to mention actual violence!

Absolutely NOT, I go to India 3 months every year and you will not even be acclimated to Kashmir in 3 days. You need at least 1-2 days to explore the city of Srinagar. Then you will want to spend a few days on a shakara exploring Dal lake. Then you will need 1-2 just to go exploring around the valley. You will need another day for shopping! You will want to rent a Donga? (a small houseboat) for a single person or a family. Everyone is quite expensive In Kashmir now. (I have been told). Since Kashmir has been closed to tourism all the Hindus are rushing there now because it is one of the most beautiful places on the earth. If you can delay your trip for a year or more then go for at least one week. Prices will have come down.

If you must go for 3 days you should have a great time..so if you most go now by all means go. It is beautiful beyond description! Enjoy!

Kashmir is very beautiful place. It is very exciting to visit there with current situation. You may be kidnapped or killed depending on your religion. You will not be able to see the best places if you will follow the instructions of Indian Army and if you don't follow them then your religion can help you. Make sure you are a Muslim. 3 days will never be enough to see the best parts. plan atleast 10 days. spending time in the house-boat is the best part of Kashmir. The common people of Kashmir are very innocent and cooperative. Do bargaining while shopping. If the seller offer you 100 bucks then you should offer 10 bucks. I am sure they will come to 15 bucks after three four negotiations.

I am Indian and I've been to India before. It's true that you do need a vaccination before you go. You can't drink the water there, or you'll get very sick. It's really cool, though. There are lots of great things. You should definatley go! Indians for sure don't hate americans. I'm not sure about the hotel stuff. I'm sure you'll be fine. There are a lot of hotels everywhere. Also, you won't need that much money. One American dollar is equal to about 40 Indian rupees (thier dollars.) Have a great time! Ha! Ha! Take Care!

If travelling by air, it should be enough time, to cover reasonable area, particularly in the wake of recent renewed violent happenings there!
