The problem with legalizing pot is that it has no organization or lobby group to pay members of congress to bring it up as an issue. As you can see the Alcohol business does really well, but they pay money to congress men and women to keep them from creating more restrictive laws.
Pot is like Alcohol in that it affects everyone differently. I dont have a problem with it being legal, but it doubles the deaths that we have with Alcohol.
Most people are not totally coherent when driving high. If they say they do its the same stupid people that say they drive better drunk.

Even though that marijuana is proven to help many people with Aids, cancer patients, Glacoma, eating disorders etc.
Even though that NO ONE has ever died from over dosing on pot.
Even though alchohol and tobacco kills more people everyday than crime acts.
Even though Hemp makes clothes, paper and many other great things and doesn't cost much to grow and harvest.
Even though many presidents have smoked it and other politians smoke.
The goverment makes too much money keeping it illegal. They could give two craps if it could help people.
The goverment is money hungry. They don't care if drug (pot) dealers are taking up too much room in jail, so they let go of rapists and molesters instead. Its all bs.

it practically /is/ legal in CA.
fine for posession of under an oz. is $100
fine for littering (and this is - like- pitching your cig butt on the ground) is $1000
dope won't get legalized for retail sale because there is no way to deal with the fact that the consumer will either grow it themselves, or know someone who does, were it legal. you probably don't grow lemons, but if you liked lemonade, and you didn't feel like paying $50 a week to drink it, don't you think you'd grow them?
one plant in a 5 gallon bucket could easily produce more than enough dope for an entire household if keeping it a secret weren't a problem. there is no way to generate enough tax revenue, as with cigarettes or liquor. tobacco smokers and liquor drinkers require the equivalent of a small farm to keep them happy, whereas a pothead just needs a porch.

if they did that they wouldn't have anything to show for on their war on drugs. That and they would actually have to do something in congress. Heaven forbid they actually work for the raises they give themselves.
