Well I am English and I might look like I am sucking a lemon becaue I like sucking lemons. I'm not miserable generally but I know I can be. Maybe it's the weather. Or maybe it's men. Or maybe it's.... oh I don't know. I'm quite happy at the moment though.

Well, the weather doesn't help, and neither does the blinkered and ignorant way you view the English!!
I think you have a very prejudiced way of looking at the world.
How would you feel if I said, why are all Canadians so artificial, negative and racist?
If the only thing you can do to get answers on Yahoo is to be insulting to the English people, then I feel sorry for you.
You obviously haven't had your eyes open.

I'm British and I must say, the English, in particular, are renowned for being a bit, how can I put it, 'reserved'. It's not that their miserable, it's that they just don't express their joy as much.
Also, the hotter the country, the more laid-back the peoples are. An English winter is truly miserable, hence the people are.

I'm british and im actually quite a cheerful person. i even manage to look happy when I am sucking lemons (mainly due to me only ever doing that as an accompaniment to tequila)
british people arnt miserable, thats a stereotype. its like saying all americans are stupid, all italians are sl*ts and so on. doesnt make it true.

Maybe the ones you have seen ARE sucking lemons. I've noticed a lot of be-suited people in busy areas look like that, but others look happy :D

Im not miserable, i'm really happy. There are miserable looking brits, it's probably because of the weather but if you come to britain on a hot sunny day, you wont see a sad face anywhere.

Ill tell you why ..cause we have the most bills to pay ...E.g income tax, poll tax ,national insurance, gas, electric, water rates , water sewerage ,, mortgage , building insurance,,,contents insurance ,, car tax car insurance ,,,tv licence ,,the list goes on ALSO when people come to live in this country they get most of this for free on OUR state benefits also we have the longest working week in Europe and the not many bank holidays ,,
I could give you about fifty more reasons if you want them..
so we may look sour but we dont actually complain like the rest of the world we just carry on and put up with it....

We may look as if we're sucking lemons (your view), but it doesn't mean we're miserable. We're the only nation able to laugh at ourselves as well as at the rest of the world, so we have more to laugh at than anyone else.
