All these things people suggest isn't always available. I was in Iraq for a while and people get homesick sometimes. I suggest that you just chill and do whatever. Avoid talking about home and the things you miss about being there. Find a dude or something to start talking about that is around where you are. Each situation is different where are you how long is your friend away from home? any chance theyre going back soon?

The best thing to do is put yourself in their shoes (as cliche` as it sounds). Think about what you would miss if you were far away from home. Sometimes even the smallest piece of home can cure an aching heart. Figure out a way to discover something they had at home that might have been an every day occurrence at the time, but if you can reinvent it for them, it could be like going to Disney World. It could even be something as small as a burger place they used to eat at there, or things they would do with their friends/family back home. Whatever it is, figure it out and plan it out and surprise them with it one day. It will make them so happy and they'll probably not feel quite as homesick from then on out because they will know that they are around someone who cares enough to go out of their way to make them happy and feel comfortable. That's what home is anyway right? Comfort. Good luck.

awe, you poor thing. it is hard to be away from your family.
i don't know if it is you or a freind who is homesick but either way it is hard. i don't know your situation but i can sympathize with and for you.
this is what i told my daughter and neice when they moved away
First thing in your home surround yourself with familiar things from home, picture, blankets music stuff like that.
Get on a good calling plan. (i don't know where you live but some cable companies have better plans than phone companies).
Go out into your new town and find a few places that you enjoy like a park or shops.maybe you need a pet, thay are good compainions.
make you new home exactly that, your new home.
fix it up they way you want it. put the kind of food that you want in the cabinets.
talk to your friends and family on the computer.
it takes time but as you meet new people and learn your way around town you will start feeling better.

Try to keep them as busy as possible to take their mind off it. That's worked for me in the past. I was once REALLY homesick in Mexico.

Give them a picture of you and a letter and tell them every time they start missing you to look at your picture and read your letter and they will feel alot better. Also, if there not to far away you could ride up for a surprise visit.

Do things with them like playing board games or going to movies. It takes time to get over misshing home.
They should attempt calling home to talk for a while.

find some new friends, read a book, go to the movies, write letters to home. Don't dwell on it though. Its good to leave home. Its teaches you independence and it makes you appreciate your family.
