My girlfriend's office has a corporate firewall that blocks instant messaging programs like Yahoo messenger, Googletalk, and many others.
For a while she was able to use www.liveharmony.org and www.chatzy.com, but now they are blocked too.
Are there any other such public chat servers/rooms that she can try? Of course, I searched the internet but didn't find anything similar. www.liveharmony.org was the best with a Java client, so it was just like instant messaging. www.chatzy.com wasn't as good because the client polled the central server for new messages.

I have the same problem. The companys firewall wont even let me check email other than the company's email.
IT really depends on if the company found out about the website. Once they find out, they will block it. Usually they have a monitoring software in the network that detects if the user is using a chat program , so they will block it right away. I would just use email like I do with my girlfriend. I usually use http://www.inventnet.com . My company detects ALL web email servers, but they havent found this one yet =)

so i have corperate firewall and am using yahoo messenger so what is ur problem is u do not know how to config ur firewall...re-config ur firerwall and u can get everything u want just a matter of knowing how...with out getting into a lenghty explanation there is an exemption box in ur firewall type i any URL and firewall will allow it
