The first answer "sushruta" is the correct answer, about 2700 years ago, the first surgery was done in India. Cessorian section was also done in india in his time.
The worlds first two universities, Nalanda and Takshsila were in India and Chinese, arabians had come to learn. Sushruta was teaching in one of these.

I don't think they can come up with a true "father of surgery". there has been too much history, and i think man has been doing surgery since the beginning of it's existance as the caveman, since the invention of primitive tools. You could argue maby the author of Gray's Anatomy, but that is just informational. I think there had been too much time between now and the beginning of time to come up with a good answer for that question. there have been so many achivments, such as i remember reading about one doctor washed his hands before surgery regularly and had significantly less deaths.

i don't think anyone would know that.
they have found signs of sophisticated amputations done at least as far back as the pyrmids. and everyone knows the embalming process the egyptions used...
