It is amazing to me that Bill Clinton got threatened with impeachment for lying about sex !!! and this president lied to the whole country about a lot more serious things than that.
When Clinton lied, nobody died.

As a Democrat myself, I feel your pain. If the United States were a private company and the current CEO had a 29 percent approval rating, he'd probably be gone after the next Board of Directors meeting. With numbers that low, you know a good portion of conservative Republicans are also disappointed with the president's performance in office.

As we learned from the Clinton impeachment hearings, however, the act itself is extremely divisive. How many passionate arguments did you have with friends who thought Clinton was being shafted over a relatively minor indiscretion, or else was a sexual predator who needed to be kicked out yesterday? Impeachment proceedings against Bush might make some of us feel better about the political justice system, but it would also send out a mixed signal to the rest of the world at a time when we can't afford one. The United State's credibility among other civilized countries is slipping fast already. Chanting "We're Number Three! We're Number Three!" isn't particularly inspiring these days.

Then you have the 'plausible denial' theory. President Bush didn't lie to the American people-- his advisors lied to him first and all he did was repeat the faulty information. If any serious impeachment discussions ever started, you'd see one advisor after another being thrown to the wolves first. There's a reason why Colin Powell is out and Condi Rice is in. Condi would fall on her own sword if the order came through. Karl Rove's removal as Head Chef and Bottle Washer was no accident, either. In order to impeach Bush, at least one of his core advisors would have to turn on him, and that scenario doesn't look very likely. Testimony from Powell or Rove would look like sour grapes.

I think all we can do is hope Bush doesn't do anything dangerous during the next two years. He'll be gone in 2008 and someone else will have to clean up the mess. I hope whoever it is (johnedwards, ahem) will have the ability to restore faith in the office again. I'd also like to see a president who will give more than lip service to the crisis in Darfur. Too bad there's no oil in the killing fields of the Sudan.

Because the impeachment process is not a popularity contest!

There was plausible evidence to support the position about which many accuse Bush of 'lying,' thus making it entirely possible that he honestly believed what he said. Congress did not vote for war solely on Bush's personal 'say-so,' you know.

OTOH, there is no doubt that Clinton knew he was lying when he did. (Unless you want to debate what the meaning of 'is' is! LOL)

BTW, Cllinton did not get impeached in the end, anyway; so why keep reminding us of his lies? Don't the conservatives do that enough for ya? :)

because there is proof that Clinton lied. There isnt "proof" yet that bush was lying about Iraq or lying about his involvement in the 9/11 attacks. All there is, is speculation right now. Besides the republicans are the one that impeached clinton or pushed for it and now the democrats do not have a leg to stand on

It is very simple. Impeachment is initiated by the House Of Representatives which is controlled by Republicans. Also, Bush and Cheney have never been put under Oath when questioned by Congress. It doesn't seem to bother Bushies that the President, Vice President, Secretary of State lie on television. It only is bad when you lie about sex while your under oath.

With Clinton the Republicans controlled congress. They were really pissed that was he was president and disgracefully spent a ridiculous amount of time and money trying to bring him down, and ultimately failed in their efforts -- he was found innocent by the senate.

Yes, impeachment was not about the BJ, it was about hatred for Clinton.

Good question! I guess the answer would be that the Republicans are just better at starting a witch trial. Whenever I am in discussion with people about politics, I state my distaste with the broad deception that took place to start a war with Iraq. The Republicans (which is just about everybody here in Kansas) go apeshit about what Clinton did, and like you said, his actions didn't kill someone's father, mother, daughter, or son. Hopefully in the future the Democrats will learn to outshout the Republican smoke machine and some of the leadership will have to answer real questions; not have the comfort of being in a group of prescreened card carrying right wing constituents. I just hope that history will not turn a blind eye like it commonly does, and hopefully the Iraq war will not be justified when kids study it generations from now. Actually no war is justified except for the one that is avoided, not sought.

Clinton was impeached, and it was done by the GOP controlled House of Representatives, if the Dems had control of the house it would have never happened.

The same can be said for Bush, he happens to be a GOP president presiding over a GOP congress, it pretty much gives him carte blanche to do what he wants.

Some of you have your heads so far up your $#%^ you can't see daylight. None, and I mean all of you, have any idea what it takes to run a country, especially the USA. The amount of pressure put on you from every direction must be exhausting. No matter what decision you make, it's going to be scrutinized by every free speaking individual, group, media, other party of whoever. Maybe in that position, you have to decided what best for the majority. No one "likes" this war. No one wanted these hurricanes and No one enjoys paying these prices for gas. But don't act as if GW brought this on us. He got handed this crap and we expect him to sort it out. Could you do better? and stay sane? At a time when we were attacked, we needed an American to step up and not take *^% from those people. GW did that. But it's lead to this ugly drawn out process. We didn't gain our freedom over night and people died in the struggle. Iraq won't gain it's freedom any easier. One last thing, Don't believe everything you read and regardless on how you feel about the war. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!! They are giving their lives.

I am not sure what it is you believe he lied about. Sure, on some things he has been wrong, even stupid possibly, but that does not constitute lying. Bill Clinton looked people right in the eye and said things he knew were false ... Bush believed what he said to be the truth and, in the end, some of it was right and some of it was wrong.

Because if Bush were to get impeached, more than half of the house and senate would go down with him and since they are the ones that would call for an impeachment, that probably ain't gonna happen. I think this would be a good time for Jesus to reappear (if that's what you're waiting for). And besides if you get rid of Bush, you're stuck with Shotgun Dick. Who's worse?

He didn't lie. He acted on the information he had. THe democrats at the time agreed with what he did. Because they saw the same information. Other world countries did the same.

It turns out that they didnt have WMD but if they just quit and leave now Iraq will be in a much bigger mess than it was before. If helped they could very well be a stable democratic nation.
