The FIRST actor to play James Bond was BARRY NELSON in a 1950s TV adaptation of Casino Royale. This episode is included on the DVD of the 1960s film version of the same name. (The movie is a mess, but the Burt Bacharach score is awesome.)

The first actor to play James Bond in movies was Sean Connery, is that what you meant? Or did you mean who the character was based on? The movies are based on novels by writer Ian Fleming, who was an intelligence officer in the British Secret Service during World War II, and wrote the novels based on his own experiences.

Actually I read that Ian Fleming used the name of an ornitologist who had published a book on bird and his name was James Bond.

Before Sean Connery, it was David Nivens. I think the film was Casino Royal.
