Well Thomas Edison invented recorded sound perfected the light bulb and thousands of other inventions. So thats why they use the light bulb to represent an idea. Edison didnt actuly invent the light bulb he made it practical.He invented or the men who worked for him in his invention factory invented just about everything, motion pictures, recorded sound, he practically invented everything involved with electrical distribution and Tesla worked for him.Edison wanted dc Tesla invented Ac Tesla joined with General Electric and AC distribution was more practical.thats why your house has Ac not Dc But almost everything electrical started in Edisons Lab in Menlo New Jersey and then east orange New Jersey .

once i asked the same question to my friend, he replied that light symbolizes knowledge, so bulb means some idea (flashed)in our mind.
Again i asked why only (light) 'bulb' why not a
"tube light" then he replied that bulb lights faster than a tube light( when we switch on a bulb,it burns faster within a fraction of second but the tube light takes few seconds.)

When you can't find something in the dark you turn a light on. By useing the lightbulb symbol it suggests the same thing about an idea as if you were searching for something and someone or something turned a light on in your brain and now you can see it.

Because people think of a light coming on inside your head, so you can see "the way." Besides, lightbulbs are cuter to see than maybe a bonfire or something.
Maybe it has to ties to Edison as well.. as silly idea that turned out able to work.

Becasue light bulbs are made from glass and mercury which are poisonous. Every time you think of something you kill 75 brain cells. If you think of something evil it is even more brain cells! Therefore, light bulbs represent satan and how unhealthy it is to use your brain. Be a sheep.

i think it originated from Edison. He invented the lightbulb in a way that was sudden and shouted :EUREKA!"
hence, the lightbulb has been used to symbolise a brilliant thought that flashed through our minds :)

b/c its as if ur mind was dark before and you couldn't see anything
and suddenly an idea appears
and it seems as if everything is illuminated (w "light)
maybe to a lesser degree w/ some ideas
it makes more sense when you've figured out a problem but its spread to just general ideas
