I was always under the impression that you had to be touching something, to be a conductor. But what if you were just floating there in the middle?

Water ability to conduct water depends on the total amount of dissolved solids (TDS), thus, the electrical conductivity (EC) of water is an indirect measure of its dissolved constituents. Let's say you had your arms stretched out and your pool is really clean (very low TDS), depending on the circumstances, there may be different field strengths from one side of your body to another. In this case, your body becomes the conductor and, yes, you can be electrocuted.

If you are just floting, no you cant be electrocuted only if you touch some kind of metal. You need a positive and a negative to cunduct electricity water in this case would be positive and pool ground or side is negative so you dont get fired.
