Female singer, maybe called jane, perhaps an actress too. Many years ago. It's one of those songs I've got stuck in my head and I really want to find out what it is.

I don't think this is your answer, but could it be someone singing an offshoot of Kenny Rogers "The Gambler"--it contains the line; "Every hand's a winner- and every hand's a loser"--and "if you want to play the game, you gotta learn to play it right". Other than that--like another answerer - Joe Dolce's "Shaddup You Face" is the only Australian song that rings in my ears.
