what makes this different from any other person who kills five siblings?

If a stranger came along and killed all of them... was it a moment of insanity.. or only if its the mother, and how do you draw that line?

Do they say its insanity because she loved them and is remorseful and regretful?

What about if joe blow killed them, and was miserable and sorry after? is that insanity too?

What about a teen who in the moment loses his mind and rapes a girl? Is that insanity? Crime is INSANE who in their right healthy mind would ever commit such acts?

How do we draw the line between sanity and not? This behavior is known by the person to be wrong, but this one isnt? in this moment but not that moment?

I think the whole thing is crazy.

the whole thing is crazy. the difference between a random killing spree and this particular killing spree is that andrea yates has a long, documented history of mental illness. she was diagnosed with postpartum depression and was strongly advised not to have more children. she and her husband's religious beliefs prohibited her from preventing further pregnancies. when she did get pregnant each consecutive time, she would stop taking her medications.

basically, this woman was a mental illness nightmare. she disobeyed her doctor's orders and she kept spiraling further and further into her illness.

this is very sad because it all could have been prevented.
