3. Finding an instrument you enjoy.... remember, your voice may be your instrument.
4. Learning and understanding the difference in types of music. What is the tempo? What is the scale a piece is written in? Why do those things matter.
Learn, learn, listen, listen..... then do.

Reading (although not essential), listening, co-ordination, independance of movement (for instance being able to do a completely different thing in each hand), dexterity, analysis, dedication.
