I have my annual pap-smear test coming up, but I'm not sure if I'm pregnant or not, I'll have to wait & see almost a month if I get my period. I don't want to say anything, should I cancel pap-smear til I know for sure.

No Pap smears do not. There is nothing that happens invasively to the cervix. They scrape along the outside, they don't go inside. You get pap smears during pregnancy though not as often because they don't want to risk any infections. If you are still unsure of being pregnant or not than you're not in any danger of having any damage done.

No. Pap smear does not cause miscarriage or birth defects.

A pap-smear during preg is normal. If you had not had one in the past 6 months or so a dr. would do one anyway. It doesn't harm the baby. It is a very common test to be done during preg. If you just had one be fore your pregnancy it just doesn't make sense to do another especially if everything is normal. Plus most insurances would question why another was being done so soon and may not pay for it (if tests are normal).

If you are concerned that you might be pregnant, simply tell your GYN before the pap smear, so that they can give you a test (blood or urine) to detect hCG in your system. You don't have to wait until your period or put off the test; simply bringing your doc and his or her resources into the picture will a.) get you the diagnosis you need and b.) determine whether it is appropriate to proceed with the Papanicolaou or not. Good luck.

I am 11 1/2 weeks pregnant and just had my first pre-natal visit a few days ago....my doctor did a pap-smear....so I don't think that you have anything to worry about. :)
Why don't you have your doctor give you a urine test for pregnancy? Good luck!

No. As a matter of fact your first prenatal examine will include an internal exam and you may have a few more throughout the pregnancy. Your Dr. will want to know that you think you're pregnant (but you don't have to tell if you don't want) but it will not hurt the baby to have the test done. I had mine done while I was pregnant quite a few times because it killed two birds with one stone, if they're going to be up there anyway....

No, a pap smear just takes cells from the cervix. I'd be surprised if it caused anything like that. If I was you, I'd go for it just to be sure that you're healthy.

You don't want to say anything to your doctor? (They can tell you if you want by taking a test). I doubt a pap-smear can harm you infact I think they do if when you find out your pregnant. Take care hun.
