My guinea pig passed away last month and I cried for a week and got a new guinea pig. I still cry though, it's a month later and I have a new guinea pig to love and enjoy...which I am very much. He died in my bedroom on my bed so now just about every night I cry cause all I can think about is that night. I thought after a month I'd be over it, but I'm not?

I am serious about this, he lived for 5 years and I was very attached just like you would be to your dog!

Geez, some of these are not very sympathetic answers! Animals are important family members. I really empathise and sympathise with how difficult is loss and grief. Of course you think of him, and you always will ... I still get teary when I think of losing our beloved animal friends and family members, even from years ago ... but try to think of all the good times you had with him, not just the terribly sad last few moments. Also, be glad that he died on your bed, with you beside him - we've had animal friends die in our arms, too, and I'd much prefer this - your guinea pig felt your love for him right to the end of his life - much, much better than him passing away in his cage alone. He had a wonderful life with you, and all the good and wonderful moments continue to count greatly too. He gave you love and memories that will be with you forever, and I know that all the love you gave him shaped his life with happiness too, and will matter always.
Have a read of these couple of articles - they're about loss and grief of bunny animal friends, but they of course still might be very helpful to you -

Everyone deals with grief in their own way. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. Take your time. Just don't shut yourself away from the life that's going on all around you. You are very lucky to have had a close bond with a little critter like that. I cried for a week when I lost my cockatiel...........people thought I had lost my mind.
I've visited this website, you might find it helpful. Check it out:

I think it conveys a nice thought. Wouldn't it be great if you could meet again? Take care.........

Sorry to hear of your loss. I've been there. At 5yrs. the piggie had a good life. Mine are over 6 yrs old, and I've lost 4 this year. You've just got a soft heart is all. The web below is great.

It's okay. Many people are close to their pets. It takes a while, sometimes a few months before you stop thinking about it a lot. I sometimes cry over pets who have died years ago. It's a little hard to get over the kind connection a person feels with an animal.

Given the brief lifespan of guinea pigs, perhaps they're not the best pet for you. I would suggest something which lives longer, like a dog, or a tree.

it's ok.....................
Its is HARD x 1000000000000000000 to get over a death.
Even if it is a guinea pig....... Just meditate and think of your guinea pig in heaven ( maybe too stupid)....
I bet your guinea pig is grateful to have such a caring owner that cried because of its death for 1 WHOLE month.
But pay more attention on your new guinea pig, ok? I know it is VERY VERY hard........
I'd probably be like you when my guinea pig dies ( I AM VERY SENSITIVE)
I hope this may comfort you! ^^

My Gus died not too long ago, I miss him terribly. I cried so heard when we buried him. I have to remember the good things.
I loved to watch him take a bath lol he looked so funny swimming. & He loved to eat!!! He learned that whenever he heard that refrigerator door open that he was gonna get fed! & you better believe i kept him happy! Everytime i open that door now, i miss hearing his squeeks and squills. Sometimes i still think i hear them !
Just remember the good times - you'll get through.
Mr. Snuffaluffagus you will be missed!

I guess that depends on how old you are. If your young and this is the first time you lost something you love its ok. But if your not then its time to get over it. Either way you need to remember it was a PET and not a person.
