The fact that John Lennon was assassinated made no difference to the fame and fortune of the Beatles. The secret to their success was the great writing talent of Lennon and McCartney, the lead guitar and backing vocals of George Harrison and the production techniques of George Martin. And don't forget Ringo's contribution either, he was and still is a Star; in his own quirky way. But all in all it was a team effort by a band of four talented musicians and their producer.

Once the group became known world wide their popularity and talent grew and grew until everything they wrote, said and did became headline news.
They were a legend in their own time and even now, just like other previous stars such as Elvis they still sell millions of CD's a year, got their own websites and music centres etc.
And to add to all of that, they would be ultra popular today if they were still around, but of course without John Lennon as an integral part of the group, his voice, his style, his charisma it wouldn't quite be the same.
By the way have you heard the current Paul McCartney band sing versions of the Beatles songs. Some of them where he sings lead ( like back in the USSR ) sound just the same as the old Beatles..so maybe that also answers your question a bit more...
I'm also a huge Beatles fan, I could talk all day about them. Know all the words to all the songs too.

Absolutely. The Beatles broke up in the early 70s, and Lennon was killed in '80 or '81. They were already acknowledged as the influential group they were.

There is a controversery that Lennon's wife ,Yoko Ono,broke up The Beatles. They would been doing solo acts to this day .
IF John found someone else, and the group stayed together, I believe they would been one of the top three major groups of today .

i wsa born in 1991 and am obsessed with the beatles, i think they still would have been big but john lennon's assasination definitelly made them as huge as they are today, if he was still alive all three of the surviving beatles, paul, ringo, and if he lived john, might have cheapened there music and wrote bad music to stay in the spotlight, ut anyways they are still the best band that ever walked the earth

The Beatles broke up long before John Lennon was killed. George is dead too. I always thought that they would get back together, but they didn't. John's son, Julian, sounds just like his dad. He could have taken his dad's place, but there is no one to replace George Harrison.

I wasn't born yet when he was killed, but I know the huge impact that it had on music today.

I really don't think they would have been as big. They would still have a ton of sales, don't get me wrong, but how many people do you know that go out and buy CD's by the Monkees?

Band get older and drift apart. And I think that's what would have happened. And Paul did so successful as a solo artist... and still does!

Yes...they would be like the Stones and Aerosmith. One of those groups that keeps making hit records over decades.

No, death always puts bands in top status. If Grace Slick died of a drug overdose, Jefferson Airplain would be a band you would here alot more of.
