Oh, definitely the Castle and the Royal Mile leading down from it to the Palace of Holyroodhouse where Mary, Queen of Scots lived - there is a plaque there where David Rizzio was murdered by her husband and others. Also Mary King's Close as others have mentioned. And there is a good waxworks museum - better, I think, than Madame Tussaud's. Or it was, when I visited some years ago.

Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile is a must. Visit Camera Obcura on the way down, although you will need to split into smaller groups. A little further on, there is Gladstones Land, a 19th century tenement block. Princes street offers the best in shopping, and can be easily reached from the old town, perhaps via Greyfriars Kirkyard and Greyfriars Bobby. also. at the foot of the royal mile is The Palace of Holyrood. Eateries abound throughout. Nightlife is great for clubbers.

One thing that I highly recommend is taking one of the ghost tours at night...yet you might want to split the group in half..so everyone can hear and stay together, there are lots of Day trips out of there and Hollyrood palace is good. Edinburgh castlenis interesting with a excellant almost 360 view of edinburgh. The Royal mile is full odf interesting things and sometimes street vendors. In the center or so of Edinburgh there is a visitor's center full of information and souveniors, slightly underground, complete with a money exchange and mall next door. Good Luck!!

The castle is the most popular choice, especially for a large group of students. But there are loads of things to see in Edinburgh. Try the website below to get ideas for what's on during the time you are there.

the castle, the palace, princess street and the gardens. don't forget crammond or portobello beach yes Edinburgh does have beaches and if it just
happens to be raining there is only one place to go and that is the museum in chamber street just off the high street this will easily take care of a day and you still would not have seen everything and it is free yeah but try and arrange for your visit when the festival is on as there is a lot of street entertainment again being a cannie Scot this is free also

The castle is the most obvious place to go. But why not try Edinburgh dungeons or if you want something more educational try the many museums.

The castle is fabulous and very nearby is Mary King's Close where you can go underground and experience what life was like in antiquity. There are also great ghost walks from the Mercat Cross just over the road from Mary King's Close. Holyrood House is also very interesting. If you like art there's the Scottish National Gallery also.
