It all depends on the state of the compressor(whether or not it is still functioning properly), the state of the hoses carrying the gas and the blower-fan. A simple checkup won't cost you the world but do it at an expert's place.

yes with the new freon you can change it but go to a dealer so he can get out the old freon so it does not add to the ozone problem and for a small purchase at any auto parts store you can purchase the new freon and nozzle kit and do that yourself takes about 20 minutes just follow the instructions

Yes but you need to have the system checked for leaks before you get any kits the recharging kits are sold at about any autoparts store

First look and notice if the fan motor is working. if so, some thing is preserving the vent gates from establishing-may well be a foul change or a vacuum leak. next seek for the fuse to the fan blower motor-if its brunt out, purely replace it...they are low value.

yes it can it takes r-12 freon i would recomend converting it to r-134a it is cheeaper and better for the ozone layer and no you dont have to get an all new system you might have to get a new compressor and reciever/dryer but no a whole new system

you should be able to unless the the AC unit is leaking then there is no use to fill it....Just use your windows and save up the money...unless you know someone that works on cars and can do AC units than it would be cheeper just to buy it and have them install it.
