SAP is like an ocean. First research what you want to learn in SAP. SAP has many modules like CRM(Customer Relationship Management), ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) etc ..which are used by different departments for different purposes of an organisation.

To learn SAP, the first thing you need to focus is..whether you want to go for a business(functional) or technical side of SAP. If you want to go for technical side, you have to learn ABAP programming language which is developed by SAP. If you're already a java programmer there's some new tool or utility called as NetWeaver developed by SAP for SAP applications. You need to research more on this before you make a decision.

If you want to move to functional, then chose one of the different modules like HR, ERP or CRM provided by sap. Visit the source and you'll find lot of user groups and knowledge base regarding SAP. Research properly before you arrive at a decision.
