Yes, otherwise like, you could use a legal document to say that you filed for a divorce and they don't know if it was a year ago it was filed or last tuesday. All documents, letters, everything, must be dated.

Absolutely. Otherwise it is open to abuse. Example: you sign a lease on a new home and the lease is for 6 months. If the landlord decides after 3 months to chuck you out and the lease is undated then you can not prove that the landlord is breaking the lease.
