NO CHANCE. Formula 1 cars are especially designed for speed and stability on the trajectory, not drifting either in a controlled or uncontrolled manner. There is no handbrake and even though the cars have rear wheel-drive, when a F1 car goes into a drift, it either does a full spin or the driver stabilises the car and gets it out of the drift. Plus, the tires are not designed for that kind of punishment. Even if you brake really hard for just a second or two, if the tire locks then it flatspots, wearing itself on the contact spot to a flat pattern. If it drifts around a corner for 10-15 seconds, you should know that the tires would be completely shot. Like after a 260 kilometer or 78 lap race around the low-grip streets of Monaco. Last year, when tire changes were not allowed, Alonso lost that race and ended up in 4th because his tires were completely worn. think about what would have happened after a 3-corner drift. The same thing. The tires would be useless after that.

1. The car is too closer to the earth, so it couldn`t drift.
2. As another person said, engine (horse power actually) vs. light body kit.
3. It`s knowned that a F1 car is build for SPEED, not for show off !

A BIG NO.Don't get carried away movies and games that drifting is so great.IIt may be sexy to look but it's pretty slow way of taking a turn and that if we have a F-1 car there's no need to take such a slow turn.Ofcourse,it's nearly impossible due to the lightness and power of F-1.

`Drifting' would only be possible in an F1 car if the downforce was removed, hard tires installed and the gearbox and drivetrain completely changed. However, it would no longer be an F1 car.

No,
F1 car is designed to have airflow go over it parallel to the centerline. Any jay angle will reduce that. Steering and suspension have been designed to be on a 'knife edge' (small steering inputs) where drift cars are operated in a variety of steering inputs.
Rally car on the other hand - yes.

i dont think so becuz when drift u lose downforce, F1 cars NEED!! downforce for them to staty on the ground. adding drifting techniques to F1 would cuz the cars the spread their wings and fly..!!! so lets jus stick to FD .

It's probably not practical for a driver to do that. First, drifting is actually a slow way to take a corner. Second, its pretty harsh on the back tyres.

I would say no. The cars are too light vs. the massive horsepower output. Also, tire rules limit the changes and drifts would kill those compounds.
