I've been having seizure like symptoms recently that my ENT suspected may be linked to a brain infection. They sent me in for an MRI, and what he discovered was that I had a large patch of scar tissue on the left side of my brain. He repeatedly told me that that was highly unusual for somebody my age to have scar tissue on the brain. Because its not being caused by something related to my ear, I'm suppose to follow up with a neurologist soon. But in the meantime... I'm curious if anybody knows what could have caused this scar tissue so early. My doctor seemed very confused of how I had that on my brain at my age. He kept saying that was highly abnormal. And he does believe that some of my seizure-like symptoms are related to the scar tissue. Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the scar. He's right. It can be caused by a number of things, including lack of oxygen to the brain, an infection of the central nervous system, or a tumorous growth. Also, head trauma can cause scarring damage, but it would have to be a pretty hard hit, and you would have suffered other effects from a hit like that, like some form of brain hemorrhage. Although impossible in your case, a gamma knife can also cause scar tissue, but those are rare, and you would remember being placed in a cancer treatment ward to get use of the gamma knife. Make sure to get a second opinion if you can....because this isn't a joking matter. Do you know where it is on the left side of your brain? That honestly is the worst side for it to be on, seeing as how your emotions and speech originate from the left side of the brain and not the right. I hope all goes well, and good luck!

Your horse needs surgery to clean that out. Scar tissue doesn't cause infection, I think your having inflammation due to chronic irritation from having the joint not working properly. He either has bursitis or some other sort of inflammation. IF there is infection, then your dealing with grangrenous necrosing tissue or there is some way bacteria is entering the knee through an opening. Anway, the horse needs the surgery. It is a painful condition he has and unless you do the surgery, its highly unlikely that he will be useable. With this amount of time passing, its questionable that he will be useable now also, growing horse joints with injuries especially if it got into the ephyseal plates is just ruined bascially. Sorry. Is this horse cut? I would get a second opinion from another vet and seriously consider the future for this horse. If there truely is a joint infection, they are tough to treat and expensive and at a year out with the injury, the destruction to the joint is enormous. I know you say hes not limping, horses are resilent, limping vs being used, 2 different stories. Good luck.

You can get minor scar tissue from a past high fever. Also from a past bump on the head, or you could have been born with it. Scarring on the brain could result in seizure. However, if people who were not having siezures had a mri or the brain...they too might discover scars on their brain they didn't know they had. Kids growing up get all kinds of whacky falls and hits to the head from falling off bikes and whatever.
