if it sounds like a rough click or knock, then the transmission may be sliping, if it sounds like a grinding, then it may be low on fluid or ur shifter my be going bad. if its sort of like a low deep
brrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmm. then u might be shifting wrong : clutch timing, or accedently riding the gas. i need more details from u to explain more.

I take it your car is manual. Could be your clutch is wearing out (yup happened for me). Just get your mechanic to check it out.
