tis the unknown

People are actually not afraid of death. They are afraid of life since they do not know what is next after death. How I have to behave now to have a better life after death if there is one. If I cannot carry gold, then what else I can carry with me? to use in transit? Death I think everybody knows as a total cessation of this existence. Then what existence exists and what I should have to have a smooth sail then.....foolish?...

In this whole confusion, they think, death is the culprit. It is actually life makes it scary. Unborn and unliving will never be afraid of death. So be that right now....

I can only speak for myself on this one, but from where I stand now,
a traumatic death is scary. of course, a traumatic death that results in a slow, painful death is even more of a scary thought.
I supose that when the time comes, and if I die of natural causes, like old age, then the worst part will be wondering if everyone around me will be ok, and wanting them to be. Maybe I would be concerned about not doing my part in lfe, so when I am on my death bed, I want to know that I was a good mother and a good wife, and a hard worker to the end. If I can do this, I will be at peace.

People are afraid of death because although they may believe in an afterlife, it is hard to truly know and accept, since no one has ever seen anyone else after death. Death represents, to many, the end of their own existences. That means no more loved ones, no more good days, no more bad days, and that scares humans. People who fear death are not fully in touch with reality, which is actually normal in this society which is prone to idealistic and fast-paced cultural movements and attitudes.

I don't think people are afraid of death. Death is the state of not being. Rather I think they are afraid of the cause of their death e.g. accident, falling and breaking of their necks, etc and then of not knowing what comes after. As a christian, I trust God for the hereafter because of my faith in Him and His love for me. As for the cause of death, well why live in fear every day, that is no way to live. Christ said " the worries of today are sufficient for itself" in other words, being anxious about something doesn't make it go away or give an answer to it. Be grateful for everyday and live it to the glory of God.

People living deeply have no fear of death.

Once you accept your own death, all of a sudden you're free to live. You no longer care about your reputation. You no longer care except so far as your life can be used tactically to promote a cause you believe in.
—Saul Alinsky

Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem more afraid of life than death.
—James F. Byrnes

Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives.
—A. Sachs

We cannot banish dangers, but we can banish fears. We must not demean life by standing in awe of death.

I don't think we're actually afraid of death, but more afraid of what will happen after death. See, we know about death. We know it will happen, but we don't know what will happen after death. And the unknown scares us.

Why do you assume that all people are afraid of death? I'm not and I know other people who aren't either. If you know that God exists, experiencially not intellectually; and you know that this mortal body is not you, again, experiencially; and if you know that Jesus died for our sins and loves us infinitely; what is there to be afraid of? If you don't know these things, maybe you should find out.
