The mother board might now support a 256MB RAM card, or 256MB might be the limit on the motherboard. Try taking out the 64MB, and just installing the 256MB. Try to find out the specs on that specific motherboard to see what the RAM limit is. With old PC's the Limit varies but i don't believe that it supports anything above 256MB, some only support 128MB.

You could very well be limited by the motherboard as it is rather old. Try removing the 64MB module and using the 256MB module. I don't know what the limit is on the motherboard. But I do think it was a bit of a mistake to install XP on such a limited system. If you can't get the ram working, I would step down to Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2000 are basically the same OS.

old motherboards u can no go more than 128mb thats why 256 is not compatible.

do like conradj213 option. instead of upgrading the mother board you can upgrade the Bios ROM, which is depend upon the manufacturer. so you visit the manufacturers site and send the qurries you have.
