Check your path:

echo $PATH

If that is empty you will not be able to get anywhere. Then check your .login and .cshrc, .bashrc, .tcshrc, and/or .profile, depending on which shell you are using. Sometimes you can add stuff that inadvertently obliterates the path.

If you have another account, you might try logging in under that to see if it has a path. If not you've got real problems.

If it isn't empty, it should say something lilke /bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin: etc. Make sure that the directory your programs are in is listed there.

It is a really bad idea to have your clients knowing your root p/word! You need to go in and change it so only you know it. It is possible tat someone has made changes to a critical file or setting and now you are very possibly going to have to re-install
