I don't think it's at all charitable of you to donate your old clothes that you no longer want and then expect to get financial compensation ie a tax write off in return. Do you even know the meaning of charitable? P.S. Why don't you sell the clothing to some homeless 'street' people? They have money from begging and can probably skip a meal or two to buy some clothes. (Just a thought)

Wow Lifeofthepartyyea, little b!tchy. Don't you know that some people can't do something out of the goodness of there heart but only for the monetary reward they will receive. Or in this case small tax deduction. It may be much more important to her to take that $500 deduction than to help some homeless person who can't afford to shop at goodwill.

why not tell us why we shouldn't make judgement? Do you have a ton of donations that will really make that much of an impact as a tax write off? Otherwise be a normal human being and just do it out of compasssion.

can't you just do a good deed for the sake of doing an act of kindness for the less fortunate? does everything in life need to be reimbursed???? PASS IT FORWARD....you probably have no clue what that means. btw, people have to PAY for clothes at goodwill, try donating to a homeless shelter.

You did a good thing by donating. When I donate, I make a list of everything in the bag or box to be donated and then attach it to the receipt of donation. If no receipt, keep your list for your records/accountants records and you will be fine up to 500.00.

NY state will take your word for it that you donated $500 worth of clothing. Are you REALLY asking that question?

Just give them the freakin clothes, you don't want or use them any longer, What is wrong with people, Ya know, if you filled your trash with those things you no longer wanted you would be PAYING to have it hauled away, its your junk, let the poor have something and feel good about it,,,,,, payment enough in my opinion!

you don''t 'have' to claim anything it is entirely voluntary to you and would be reported on sch A with the tax return if one does not use Sch A, it has no value whatsoever on his tax return

oh how nice someone who donates to get something back for themselves the true meaning of charity. I bet at Christmas time you refuse to give money to the bell ringers unless they give you a piece of candy in return huh???
why people would JUST GIVE something to someone is beyond me.
