what Einstein did was not that theory only ..
we can not ignore his main role in physics
i will tell you something i think - i am sure - you do not know :
the physics before Einstein was named the classic physics
and after him it waasalled modern
he worked out improving Newtons laws to fit the speed of light
and he made it
but there was a little confusion about the time part

i think that you should read about him

The fact everyone knew who you were talking about suggests he was a very important figure in science. The argument could be made he revolutionized modern physics, and was the most influencial physicist of the 20th century. But there were many others (Newton, Galileo, Copernicus, Boyle) who caused revolutions in their own time.

His theory was not that we could travel the speed of light. His theory was that matter and energy are interchangable. This concept led directly to nuclear power, but gave other physicists another way to consider matter and energy.

It is not a question of being the "best" it is more to do with theory and which scientist produces the best provable results. Einstein has provided evidence to support his initial theory of time and it is still used to advance our knowledge of this 4th dimension, today.

even though einstein was a genius, apparently there is little credit given to his first wife, who was intellectually gifted as well and without her help, he may not have gotten through his work. when he finally won the nobel prize, he gave the money to her.
