You need to find a way to control that temper of yours. According to the law, if you hit someone first, and they hit you back it falls under the code of 'mutual combat'. Police will arrest neither of you. However, a man should never hit a lady, he should just turn and walk away.
Next time you get angry and are about to raise your hand, stop and think, when you were a child and your parents hit you , did you like it? if the answer was no, lower your hand, take a deep breath, turn around and leave the room, go for a walk outside, or to your room till you cool down, then come back and say sorry, and go back to what you were doing.
If you both plan on staying together, I would suggest both of you go to 'anger management therapy' .

Dear, you have a lot of good advice here. However, a man should never hit a woman, no matter what. That is old school, but that is how I feel. Further, if you are not happy in this relationship, for goodness sake get out of it. Abuse, is never acceptable. All couples have disagreements, but yours do sound excessive. Being with another person should provide much more pleasure than pain. Good Luck.

I am sure he "didn't mean to do it" either - just like you "didn't mean" to hit him. That being said, your hitting him does not excuse his hitting you - but it certainly allows for a clear argument of self-defense. You get what you ask for - so be careful about that for which you ask. You hit someone, the chances are good that they will strike back and not many people will blame them.
Stop hitting anyone.
And get out of the relationship.
Get into an anger management class.
Get some counseling and learn how to be a respectable human being in the world.

Hitting is not o.k. by either sex.If you feel the need to strike in anger take it out on your pillow or take a stick to a tree.Try to talk calmly to resolve some of the reasons you fight about everything.Good luck

Well for one thing it's not right for you to hit him. And no he should not of hit you back. Sounds like you need to get out of the relationship. The two of you do not need to be together. And another you better keep your temper down. No need for hitting, unless he hits you first.
