The LAN is like towns and villages in a state, state is a MAN in the country, country is WAN,Internet is interconnection of WANs.

My example looks bit funny, its practical how todays network is made up of LAN,MAN and WAN.

A LAN is a local area network. It connects computer to computer in a single location (a building or campus) together as a network. It may have a server to control security, file sharing, storage, and print services. It may provide access to the Internet.

A MAN is a network of networks. It connects one network to another network over a limited area. Stand for Metropolitan Area Network. Usually covers areas like a city or a county. Usually is "public" in nature, such as available to all residence of a city.

A WAN is a wide area network. Like a MAN, it is a network to network connection. But a WAN is usually over long distances, such as across entire countries, or around the world. Usually private in nature such as connecting all the sites of a world wide company.
