Yes I hate them with a passion.
I had AOL dialup before there was such thing as broadband. After I finally got cable, I wanted to at least keep my email account with them so I used their "Bring your own ISP" service but had email with them for another year or two.
i called to cancel. They told me they will cancel my account. I got billed for the month. I called again, they told me they did not see my cancel on the system so they will definitely cancel me next time. I STILL got billed the following month.
I got so PO'd that I called them and this time I was basically yelling and they told me that this will never happen again. So they finally closed my account. I didnt get billed the next month, but I didnt get my money back from the last 2 erroneous payments either.
I will never get any service with them again. Customer service is very important for a company, and they definitely suck at it.

Yes it's really that bad. I had a similar experience a year ago. I had a 30 day trial subscription to AOL that came with some computer hardware I bought. I called within the 30 days to cancel and received by far the worst customer service of my life. The customer service rep flat out refused to cancel my account. He was incredibly rude and condescending. He actually said I was putting him out, and then refused to honor my request. I had to call back a 2nd time to cancel. I received a confirmation number and thought that was the end of it. But a month later AOL went ahead and charged my credit card for the month even though I had cancelled! Reading these posts it seems nothing has changed. I tell everyone I know to stay away from AOL.

The link that you have attached is interesting! AOL has been a problem for many! I had AOL for 2 years, a few years back and the customer service rep. does ask a thousand questions before canceling an account. They try and pressure you to keep the account. On the link that you have.... personally..... I don't think they fired that guy because that is what they are taught to do. Even though it is against their policy to the customer. He only apologized for protection of the company.

Yeah and I always thought.... how many technical support staff does it take to replace a light bulb?
Only one, but you will be put on hold for thirty minutes to an hr. I have had AOL too, in fact I used to like aol until I switched IS providers. I now have SBC, which is bad too. At least when you call tech support from aol you dont get someone from india who can't speak any english, was hard for me to understand them. LOL. Heck, SBC is just as worse now. Yeah, not only AOL had some problems but SBC does too.....
Makes me mad too.
Think of it this way, you can always throw your pc out the window....LOL
And take a look at this:
http://media.putfile.com/AOL-Cancellation
LOL is exactly why I dont have aol anymore, lol....

This is not in relation to canceling AOL service, this is just a recent experience dealing with AOL. I began by signing up at career builder for a banner campaign, i thought we did everything needed to get the account online. Emails to the only contact provided proved to be sporadic in response. In frustration, i tried to contact the company which turned out to be AOL advertising. On my first attempt to call, i was on two lines, one on hold with AOL and the other talking with a client. The minute i got through to AOL, i asked the other caller to hold, apparently the AOL representative thought i was talking to her and proceeded to scream at me that she could not hold, i barely got a word in to tell her i was speaking to someone else, she was really in a tizzy, In any event i tried to explain that i wanted to speak to someone in their advertising department and before i could complete the issue she was rude and told me that i could only speak to someone if i had their first and last name, I tried to explain to her that the email response i received has no name other than the CB staff. Again, she was rude and would not let me finish. I hung up in frustration. After cooling down i tried to call the corporate office and again i got an operator who also seemed unfriendly and prepared to fight me. I tried to explain the issue and she transferred me to voice mail hell again that only addressed situations if you were an AOL customer... Once again i called back and asked for the complaint department, and without a kind word she transferred me again to voice mail that wanted my AOL account. I have to tell you that i was shocked with the treatment and disrespectful help provided by AOL representatives. I am hoping that Career Builder is worth the frustration to advertise on the site. It has been going on two weeks and i still do not have our account activated nor can i talk to anyone to go over why or what needs to be done. I am depending on sporadic emails from an unnamed person in who does not seem to want to talk nor really cares about our business. AOL Platforms. I have to tell you that in any future endeavors, if it has anything to do with AOL, i will avoid it like the plague....
