theoretically the importance of statistics in management is to provide a factual basis for decision making - however, in my personal experience statistics are generally manipulated in order to support the personal aims of the manager concerned

I am not sure if was Mark Twain who said that there was lies, damn lies and statistics. LOL
They can be useful as an example or to have data but there are not the truth, my professor used to say, if a rich man has 4 maids and 5 rolls royce, then everybody has a rolls royce.

statistics give precise facts. through interpretation of these facts, management can make the best decision. or even structure policies.
