If by then you are still not feeling well and still coughing, attend for only a short time, say 5 minutes. Wish him "Happy Birthday" while you give him the gift you bought him, kiss him on the cheek (if you are female), nibble a piece of birthday cake, apologize, AND LEAVE.

I think you should wait till that day to decide whether u should go or not.

If the cold persists, then avoid going since by going there you will only spread the cold. Those people might also look down upon u if you start sneezing and coughing during the party.

If u are well enough to attend the party n u want to go then just do it... If u r not well n feel that u would not enjoy the party then forget about going to ur friend's place... U can wish him/her via phone or send a gift... there are so many alternative ways of wishing ur friend... Or may be u could just go and wish ur friend n come back after a short time if not feeling well...

If he's a close friend, then you get some medicine in you, suck it up, and go to the party. And then act like you're fine, since nobody wants to be around someone telling them how crappy they feel. If he's just an acquaintance, then stay home.

call your friend and tell him/her that you might not make it but you are planning on going if you feel better.Spend the next two days in bed, drink plenty of water and get alot of sleep. If you aren't up to the party stay home, if you decide to go remember to wash your hands often to not spread any germs.

Wait for 2 days and see how you feel like. If you still are sick: stay at home.
Why don´t you call or send a sms to your friend and tell him that you are sick but that you hope to come if you are better that day.
