Six months ago, my old roommate was dating a girl & happy. I've since moved. We spoke last night, & he admitted to being bisexual, but not wanting to be. I told him that whichever way he goes; I'm still his friend...but I could hear his frustration...his confusion...his fear. What else could I have done? He admitted to being really stressed out 'cuz he doesn't like this part of himself. Help!

Well, he called me today & informed me he's chosen to embrace his gay identity.
I'm discouraged for him, but I'll support him as best I can. I just don't know how.

It can be agonising getting to grips with one's sexuality, when it "deviates from the norm". I vacillated and struggled for a couple of years, flicking between gay and straight (always wanting one when I was with the other!) eventually settling down on Bi (with all the issues THAT raises).

You've done pretty much all you could do - HE has to come to terms with it, not you. You might put your money where your mouth is and take him out for a drink or to a club - so that he KNOWS you're still his friend (sometimes words don't cut it). Otherwise, there's not much else you can do.

If you want to take this off-forum you can contact me via my Profile page and we can correspond via e-mail. I'll detail my story, the issues I (thought I) had and what their resolution was for me (Don't really know your friend's background/situation so his'll likely be different). You can then discuss this with your friend if/when you go out for that drink.

Thanks for caring enough about him to ask.
