Scientifically speaking --
Volume is the amount of space that a 3d object occupies.
Area is the amount of space a 2d object occupies.
Density is the amount of mass of an object per unit volume.

Volume - the resultant - when a plane moves.
Area - the resultant - when a line moves.
Density = mass per unit volume
