Gilbert is a popular manufacturer of rugby (and other) sports equipment. It doesn't feature on ALL rugby balls, though. Other brands are less well-known e.g. Summit etc.

One of the refeerees is named Gilbert. Hes not a regular referee however, he is only the touch judge. Because no one ever pays attention to him, he rummages through the ball bags before every game and paints his name on the balls.
