I'm an American in London, wholeheartedly supporting the English team and watching in horror when the US play (still cheering them on though).

I seem to remember hearing about a win for the US in 1950 at the World Cup, and also that the US were ranked higher than England earlier this year. That's all piqued my interest...

Can anyone tell me how many times the colonies have played the empire...and won?

Engalnd have played USA five times, won 3, lost 2, no draws.

Once in the World Cup (England lost - Tsk!), once in the US Cup (England lost - and I was so embarrassed) and 3 friendlies which we won.

You can get the full breakdown f any team playing any other team on the official world cup site. Select your team from the "select a team" pull down menu and scroll to the bottom of the screen to the matches database. From there on, it is self explanatory.

I remember reading about the 1950 win for the US and it seems to me that England were just too arrogant at the time, they didn't even feel it was worth taking the world cup seriously, why? Because England invented the game and really only played against European opposition at Wembley where the results always went Englands way. Got the shook of there lives when beaten by the US, but it was considered a blip hardly worth noting. It wasn't until the Hungary side of the late 50's came to wembley and beat England easily that the Football Association realized that they had been left behind and they'd better start taking foreign teams seriously.

England did beat the US easily last year thou, Played with peter Crouch and owen up front and won easily.

The full record between the 2 teams are England 8 Wins USA 2 Wins there have been no draws. England scored 33 goals USA 8.

I think most knowledgeable people will tell you FIFA Ranking system is a joke, you get the same points for beating Brazil that you'd get for beating Canada and as most of the best teams in the world tend to be in Europe it's understandable that England will lose more matches than the USA. Lets just see how this World Cup pans out, I think you'll find the USA just fail to qualify were-as England will make the Semi's before predictably going out to Brazil.

Yes they have played each other in a major comp, doesn't the 1950 World cup count. It was after -all USA first win over England.

Reply to person that says USA have only played England 5 times . What a load of rubbish get your facts right, i got mine from FIFA.com USA vs ENGLAND 2 wins 8 Losses 0 Draws goals For 8 Against 33, this does cover all competitions & friendlys. Your just taking the comps into account.. Since i've been following football i've seen at least 4 USA vs Englnad matches and no i'm not that old..

The two wins were memorable, 1950 in Bel Horizonte in a World Cup winning 1-0 , the other 2-0 in America in 1990s, I think Alex Lalas was one of the scorers.

They have never played each other in a major competition (World Cup), although many teams have travelled over to the US to enhance their position in the market, I remember Man Utd going over there last season.

It would be good to see them play each other. I can't see the US beating us yet, but it's a new sport, give a few years (10-15yrs) I can imagine the US dominating it
