or perhaps men find it difficult to multi-task
or maybe he literally can't remember anything and is additionally not very bright

From my experience, it's a common male response when they've either done something wrong or the possibility of the same. Retardeness is a common trait among men. I'm sure he plays stupid accordingly but gets an attitude if you tell him that he is.

It is called selective memory. He probably only remembers what he wants to. My oldest son is just like that lol. Or maybe he needs to see a doctor and get medical help and attention for it if it really is a medical problem.

Some guys really don't pay attention to what you said in the first place. The only pay attention if your talking about a subject they are interested in. Easy way to find out if he's paying attention throw some key words in there...like "Beer" or "Sex"...and see if his ears perk up a bit!!
