lol people. the person wants to know HOW to do it, not just be told the answer. let's work this out ans i hope i get it right for ya.
Problem: x + y = 12, x - 19 = -15
Answer: x=4, y=8
Why?
1. Identify what you need to know.. What is X and what is Y?
2. We can see from the information that there is a way to find X in the second part of the equation. We obviously can't find out x+y=12 by itself.
x - 19 = -15... add 19 to both sides and we have x=19-15=4
So now we know x = 4.
3. Plug in 4 where ever there is x in the main equation.
x+y=12.. 4+y=12.. subtract the four from both sides y=12-4 = 8
4. So your answer are x=4 and y=8
Note: You have to know that x+y=12 is the main equation while x-19=-15 can be seen as just extra information to help solve the main equation.

Take the second equation first. x-19 = -15. Taking the 19 to the otherside, you get x = -15+19 which gives x=4. Substitute this value in the first equation. so x+y=12 becomes 4+y=12. Taking the 4 to the right side, you get y=12-4 which gives y=8.So the answer is x=4 and y=8.

Look at the second equation:
x-19= -15
Therefore, x= -15 - (-19)= -15 + 19= 4
So, when you have x= 4,
Look at the first equation; put x=4 in that equation, you get,
4+y = 12
Therefore, y= 12 - (4)= 12-4= 8
So, Answer:
x= 4 and y= 8.

x+y = 12 -----equation-1
x- 19 =-15 -------equation-2
taking equation 2;i.e. x-19 = -15
we can also say x = -15+19
this means x = 4
now putting the value of x in equation 1; 4+y = 12
y = 12 - 4
y = 8
for the puepose of checking put the values of x and y

okay
x + y = 12
x-19 = -15
so get x alone by adding
x-19=-15
+19 =19
your result is
x=4
now you can plug in
4+y=12
get y alone by subtraction
4+y=12
-4 -4
and you get
y=8
check your answer
4+8=12
yes?
they your good
