Is it because, you are tired of the marriage commitment, the promises, or afraid of all. Why are you still a single?

This is an excellent question and thank you for your question.

I am 53 years old and still single. I always thought that I wanted to get married and have children. I am an extremely shy person (social phobia) and I had trouble meeting people and making friends. Finally, I have friends, but at present, no boyfriend. I also thought I wanted a boyfriend, but when I had a boyfriend, it didn't work out. Was I afraid of intimacy, rejection, being overwhelmed (losing my way of life and identity)?

I have answered your question with questions to myself (sometimes that is the Jewish way).

They may not have met the right person.
They may be afraid of commitment.
They may think that if they get into a relationship they will become overly dependent on that person henceforth they will become weak.
They may have been abused and therefore afraid that that will happen again.
They may wish to find themselves before they get into a relationship because the person they would get into a relationship with may hinder that quest.
They may believe that to have a good relationship with someone else one would Need to have a good relationship with oneself.
They may lack self esteem henceforth thinking that they shouldn't bother getting into a relationship because no one would want to get into a relationship with them.
Getting into a relationship may be against there calling.
They might not get out much.
They might not know where to go to find someone.
There religion might forbid them to go to certain locations or participate in certain activities where others might go to get into a relationship.
They may be to lazy to start dating
They may be too picky which would make everyone they come across as less than acceptable.
For me, I just don't think I'm mature enough to handle it.

Tired of trivial bullSh** by women, I do not want to have to spen two months pay on some stupid diamond, nor do I see the need to spend 20 grand or more on a wedding; where both the money for the engagement ring and wedding could be spent on a HOUSE.
I do not want to deal with any baggage that she might have
And I know that if I get married and the wife cheats on me I get screwed over in divorce court not her for cheating on me

there are so many things, offcourse commitment, promises are also there. But i think the biggest thing is responsibility. If you are a male then after marriage you are going to take a big responsibility.

It's a combination of a lifestyle choice wherei do not want to get serious with anyone until I feel I can commit without compromising what I want for myself, and not having found anyone yet that I could feel happy with for a long period of time.

Several reasons: I don't have time to date, I'm very picky, I'm not trying to find someone at the moment and therefore don't make much of an effort to meet anyone, and I'm a bit commitment phobic right now.
