registrations001,
There's a big difference between making threats and following through with them. Iraq had used chemical weapons. They were ACTIVELY shooting at our planes over the no-fly zones on a daily basis. They violated 17 U.N. Resolutions. They supported Hamas and other terrorist groups by giving money to the families of suicide bombers.
At what point do you say enough is enough? That's a question you don't seem to have a good answer to if you think the Iraq war was wrong. Saddam truly believed we'd never commit to taking him out. The problem would have only gotten worse had your line of thinking been abided by.
sgtsnafu2,
Saddam told weapons inspectors there were NONE. Why would he care about hiding depleted resources? Really ask yourself that. Truth is that he had the capability to produce more weapon-grade chemical weapons. He had the "know-how". He demonstrated his willingness to use them. He campaigned against everything the U.S. stood for. You are naive to think he would never place them in the hands of the terrorists he was paying to blow up Israelis.
There is no question he posed a threat to the stability of the region. Now that we're in Iraq, we can keep Iran in check. You wouldn't happen to be one of the ruling mullahs there, would ya?
TommyG,
Oh, I see. We found weapons that weren't even on our list!! Gee, I guess that means they don't count? Are you going to avoid the question as well asking why Saddam would bother hiding them in the first place?

This type of political discusion attracts answers from a wide range of people. Most appear to come from the young uninformed types but this is America. The amerian dream finds its roots in the melting pot theory. This is the country that welcomes all nationalities and ethnic groups. This war is not a popular event. No war is. Viet Nam part 2 is a good description. During WWII we had an easy choice of Good vs Evil. Our military was attacked by our opponents. After WWII our choices were not clear. The Cold War was a Spy vs Spy, or cat and mouse competition. Viet Nam was an attempt to stop the spreading of communism. It was a very unpopular war. I think the official death toll is in the area of 200,000. It changed our view points on government powers. It came along near the end of the Civil Rights Movement, another unpopular series of events. We must ask our elected officials to make good leadership decisions that will insure that our free society remains the best and strongest nation in the world. I think this is more about politics and energy. We do not have a visible opponent here. This comes from a foe who is bitterly attacking what we know as the American way of life. We all have to accept that Freedom has a Price. The death Toll is low because of our Technical Advanement as a nation in whole. Now we have to keep our leaders in check and make them accountable for their decisions. Please Vote for the leadership you think best represents our interests.

So the US was right to invade Iraq because after 4 years of digging we discover that they had a batch of 15 year old poison gas lying around? Yeah, that's a real threat to world peace. Just like the US gvt said when the began this war.
So what should we do with North Korea? The whole time we were busy in Irak, they've been jumping up and down screaming that they're building nukes.

i AM a liberal. i don't think we should pull out. i don't support the war but no body thinks we should just up and leave, that would turn iraq into a huge mess. now that we are there we have to finish what we started, but that shouldn't involve putting puppets in their government so we can use them later.
there were so may better ways to go after saddam and search for these weapons, it didn't have to be this way.
i ask though, if they had found these weapons before why didn't they say anything? it's not like it was some sort of top secret information that could have been used against us.
i support america and i support our troops, i don't support out gov't's scare tactics.

This happened three years ago. I remember when the story hit the news back then that 36 artillery shells with traces of mustard gas were found buried somewhere. "WE FOUND WMDS LIBS!"
Now Rick Santorum is ressurecting this old yarn because he is losing his reelection campaign. Ever notice Bush hasn't said anything?

Nah, it wont stop em. They will either ignor reports or claim 500 shells isnt enough. Liberals dont want the us to win, so they will stop at nothing to try and embarrass the current administration. What they call free speech borders on sedition.

The shells they found are over 15 years old and degraded. In other words, THEY CAN NOT BE FIRED AND WILL NOT WORK! Now you please stop your whining! That is unless you're scared of weapons that don't work. Try to be brave little man.
