Thats a great question!!!

If you feel sleepy after eating, particularly after sweet or bakery products, you are normal. Eating sugary foods causes your brain to make large amounts of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, that makes people fall asleep naturally at night.
Many people can avoid feeling sleepy after eating by restricting foods high in sugar and flour. When it is important for you to be alert, eat foods that do not cause a high rise in blood sugar, such as vegetable salads, nuts, seeds, meat, fish and chicken.

It depends on what your eatting for lunch. If your lunch contains more suger you will get some what hyper and jittery. And if you eat like a turkey sandwich you will become sleepy because of the chemical found in turkey that makes a person sleepy. And if it's just alot of food in general well then you over ate and now your stomach is fuller than usrual and you become lazy. All your bodys energy is now focused on digesting what you just ate.

Food coma, all the blood is rushing to your stomach where digestion is going on and leaving the brain deprived and you sleepy. Not sure if this is the scientific explanation but it's what I've always been told.

It is because after eating the concentration of sugar in the blood increases which leads to ex-osmosis ie movement of water from the body cells to the blood where there is high concentration of solute. The movement of water from the cell results in the reduced metabolism which courses one to feel sleepy.

Most of our blood goes to our stomachs to digest food, that means the nervous system has less oxygen to work with and we feel sleepy.
