each person has a different fear when it comes to delivering the baby. i was so freaked out from having an enema done which is a routine practice where i live. but i ended up doing a c-section with epidural and had to have a catheter, no enema! well i didn't feel a thing because i was numb from the epidural, even when they removed it it wasn't painful just a bit of a weird feeling that s all. if you have major concerns you should discuss it with your doctor so that you can be ready and prepared on how he usually proceeds, you will have other things to worry about during delivery (like please get this baby out of me!) so no need to add to your stress.

I have had 4 children and all have been Cesarean births because of a pelvic displacement due to an accident. I had to have catheters for all of them because of the surgery involved. I have never heard of anyone having a natural birth needing a catheter. On the other hand if you are talking about an enema then you can choose to have one or not the choice is yours. Let me reassure you that Catheters do not hurt. They relieve the pressure in your bladder and allow it to empty. A must if you have had an episiotomy. My dear girl. Stop worrying. You will be fine, trust me. After the baby is born, you will be so please that you have them that you will not care what they do to you because you will have a lovely baby of yours - the best thing you will ever do,

It depends on the situation and your Dr
If you have to have a C-section or opt for an epidural you will have to have a catheter. It is required for all surgical procedures and for the epidurals because you will have no feeling below the waist, so you won't know if you need to urinate or not. Sometimes even in natural labor they will cath you just to alleviate some pressure on the bladder after you can't get up to the bathroom any longer or if the baby is too far down.
Believe me, once you are in labor, that will be the least of your worries.
Good Luck!

Yes if your are planning on some meds to ease the pain....but if its naturally..no...if your scared of needles and such you should go to a birthing home..they'll help the pain with out everything..but honestly? you'll be so focused and destacted on your contactions..that the cathader wont hurt a bit..its worth it in the end...a baby!

No. The only they would give you a catheter is if your bladder is full and the baby is behind it. I had that to occur with my youngest but I didn't feel a thing because by this time I was into the epidural. Once they catherize me, she was well on her way into this crazy world.

not if you are going to go without the epidural...the catheder is to help you go cause you can't tell that you have to or feel anything to do it...if you're having the baby naturally, you'll feel everything so you don't need it.
I don't want to discourage you from a natural birth, but if you do go the epidural route (which I ended up doing when I got into it), don't worry about the catheder cause you can't feel it or anything. I mean, at all.

Usually you do not need a catheter with normal birth.
I had one with my spinal cesarean. If it needs to be done, just try to relax as much as possible, then it won't hurt when they insert it and it will be done correctly the first time. Try thinking of something else when they put it in. It really wasn't that bad.....
