The movie, "If Tomorrow Comes" starred Patty Duke. The setting is 1941 during the attack on PearL Harbor and she secretly marries a Japanese-American guy. They live apart and in the end he leaves to go get her and she decides to go get him and they pass each other on a highway without them seeing one another. When he arrives, he finds her gone and thinks she doesn't want to be with him anymore and he commits suicide.
This movie is a real tear jerker.

I did actually read the book, "The Face on the Milk Carton" which I think is related to the other book, "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" which could be related to the TV movie.

Yes the first was not a TV but a real movie.
The second was for the theaters but it was a free creature feature not a main movie.
The thrid was a mini-series.
