Adding RAM doesn't affect your computer's hard drive, so no reformatting is needed. The only thing you need to worry about is 1) making sure the computer is turned off before installing the RAM, and 2) when installing the RAM reduce possible electrostatic (ESD) damage by a) wearing an anti-static wriststrap or b) touch the computer's metal chassis to ground yourself.

Wow, those were the days. Its sad that all of those terms are first applied to computers now, instead of what they actually are. We can see where this world is headed, that's for sure.
