I can relate to why people get upset about languages in another county. My parents immigrated and learned the lanugage and the ways of this country. I live in a community that now caters to other cultures, at the expense of our own. Street signs are printed in other languages to make it easier for new people coming to this country, Our elementary schools now stop having Christmas plays because it is not politically correct. I don;t want to feel like I am racist, but I am beginning to think I am heading that way. It is not the way I want to bring up my children. Sometimes multiculturism sucks.

They still think their cultures ae good, it's just depending on the country they come from. If there is war going on, they come here for us to protect them, or like the saying used to be, "running with milk and honey"

If we went to there place of origin, we would have to adapt to thier language, but we have to change ours for everyone else. Well, you are right. I don't agree we should.

We are not pushing our religion on them, so why do we have to change the name of our holidays for everyone. I still say "Merry Christmas", "Happy New Year", "Happy Easter". If whoever I say it to is offened, oh well, get a grip. It is and was our country first. So I will say what I please. If they don't like, have them move back to where they came from.

People came over here in the begining for religious freedom, now we are trying to have "God" taken out of everything we hold dear. Well screw the goverment and whom ever doesn't like it.

I taught my children to say whatever they thought was right, and they are teaching thier children to do the same

When our parents or grandparents came to this country, because someone could not pronounce the name they had, it got changed. Not anymore. My husband's grandfather's name was changed from it's original Polish anme to an american one. Now we can not even pronounce the one he had. So why did they have to loose thier idenity, and the ones who come now don't.

It's not right, that the goverment is sticking thier nose into so much. What are we becoming, another USSR.

So let everyone who comes here learn our language, not the other way around. Keep your cultures, because they are great, not saying that they are not. But we shouldn't have to change what we were brought up with And some people bring up discrimination if things don't go thier way. that is being used way too much.

I know people have come a long way, but it's time for everyone to grow up and face thier own faults, not keep blaming it on someone else.

But the cultures are good, it's just running from war, poverty, and other things that are not right in thier own countries.

But this is my opinion, and other's might not feel the same. But good luck with this. Have a nice day, or night.

While the culture may be good, the leaders and opportunities can be terrible in other countries. Here the opportunities are wonderful and we can preserve our culture to some extent while participating in this new and unknown culture - say the immigrants that come to America.

I think those foreign language signs are not for new comers (though it would be great if we could be as multicultural as europe and put signs up in 4 languages, in america) they are for the community that lives there. Those citizen petition their congress men and local government to do this for them to make it easier on them and the people they care for (like kids and elderly).

In America, public school is not the place for religious education or expression - churches, temples and homes are. Your child doesn't have to miss out on being in the church play - and kids of other faiths don't have to learn the religion of another to participate in a school event.

Multiculturalism is wonderful when we can teach it to our children and make their lives the better for it. By teaching tolerance and diversity and respect for other people's view we are teaching our children how to make the world a better place.

Peace!

No it doesent what sucks is the way u use it, i come from a family of two very diff cultures at first that used to confuse me but now i see it as a blessing, cause we are human we know whats right and whats wrong whats good and whats bad u can change multicultures to your advantage u take the good and live by it and u learn from the bad and make sure u dont raise ur children by it. I see it this way, i have the best of both worlds and because i have two worlds to chose from i have the chance to make a comparision between two cultures and chose what culture or tradition to live by that makes me happy.

Just to check how far their thinking is correct about their own culture they boast, as comparison can be made only when they are able to see some other culture by mixing with the people of some other country.

People leave their countries because of political or economical problems. They want to improve their lives and by coming to another country they also bring their culture. Some people assimilate quickly while others don't.

I also feel like poeple of a country should be able to remain rooted in the beliefs that formed their country. I have no problem with people coming in, but if you move to another country, you need to assimilate.
