My computer used to recognize this disk but as time persisted, it started to not recognize it at times. Now it doesn't even recognize it at all. Since the disk is old anyways, is there anyway i can transfer my information and such onto a different hard disk? I think there's something wrong with the motherboard because it says the device is working properly but it doesn't show up. HELP please.

if u have another hardisk then setup it to be the primary and then attach the other disk as a slave, if it is not working then try some software like partition magic

you're saying you basically upgraded to XP. are not you approximately 8 years previous due? besides verify the BIOS first. next boot off the residing house windows CD to work out if it sees the rigidity. If it does see it then you particularly are having subject with the ATAPI drivers in residing house windows. this could get complicated from here so look on the fundamentals first.
