Sony is the best DVD Writer. It is the best when it comes to performance, reliability, ruggedness and compatibility with a variety of recording. Also, its spinning motor makes the least noise compared to other brands. It costs only a fraction more than other DVD Writers, so its worth it.

I am sayin its the best because of reviews I have seen about it in reputed magazines and also because I own one, and becase my friends own Writers of other brands and are not satisfied with them.

Sony is not a good DVD Writer. Asus is the best I think. I found LG is good also. I don't like Liteon.

NEC or Pioneer. Things that make a DVD writer --- 1) No burn errors or very..... very few. 2) Quiet, silent is golden 3) Quality, you know that it will last over hundred of hours of usage. 4) Multiple write (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVDRW, DVD-RAM discs) capabilities and speed (16X and dual layer support).

I have the Pioneer DVR-108 for over 2 years and it's still work very good. It had burned over 100 discs. It's a lot cheaper now than it was 2 years ago.
