Jammu and Kashmir, especially Srinagar, during springtime. The war and the present activities there have taken much of Kashmir's beauty, but it is still one of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world.

Hi, nice idea to find a cool and calm place. Well, in India ofcourse the coolest would be Himalayan region. Since the monsoons are just about to reach this area you will not find the places very crowded. Infact my experience says that you can still find quite places in the hustle bustle of a crowded tourist place. Some good places are like Dalhousie, Manali, Lansdowne, Sikkim, Darjeeling, McLeodganj, Leh, Ranikhet, etc. Each place has its own glory and beauty. And the final destination will depend on the number of days you are actually planning to go for. Anyways, have a gr8 time ahead.

You asked for Places in India .I suggest you should visit ooty .
Nilgiris hills , it offers everything you are looking and there are many areas around it to explore !
The scenie beauty of Udhagamandalam will truly inspire you and you will enjoy it.The toy train experience is there too ..Ooty offers lots more than that.
Waterfalls of Tamilnadu are also very scenic .You will enjoy them too.I am from Pakistan , but thats one of the places in India other than Taj Mahal for which my heart throbs ..
Best regards
Sidra

It would largely depend on the time of the year you are travelling to India. However, the best destinations according to your requirements would be Jaisalmer and Udaipur in Rajasthan, Munnar in Kerala, Pondicherry and Goa (not necessarily in that order).
